Frequently Asked Questions
I’m not very gifted at singing but I would like to try.
We like to say that everyone can sing. Many people feel more comfortable singing with a group and even if your voice is not of solo quality the participation with a chorus of women may surprise you as you experience group harmony.
Do you offer singing lessons?
Our Director willingly offers “sectionals”. The various parts (Tenors, Leads, Baritones and Basses) are encouraged to rehearse outside of regular rehearsal time. This provides concentrated effort and diminishes lack of confidence on the part of the singer. These sectionals, of course, are optional.
Do the Chimes enter competitions?
The Cayuga Chimes are not a part of Sweet Adelines or Harmony, Inc. and therefore we do not enter competitions. The mission of the Chimes is to “expand, improve and reach out to the community through a cappella music.” We feel that concentrating on competition would prohibit that.
Are members required to travel?
The Chimes have traveled and performed at Notre Dame in Montreal, The Concord in the Catskills, Chautauqua near Jamestown, NY, Mansfield, PA Old Home Days celebration and Hope Lodge at Greek Peak, Virgil, NY, to name a few. Members are encouraged to participate in performances to the best of their abilities and sometimes traveling becomes a part of that experience.
What is the cost to join the Chimes?
We do not require a membership fee for joining. Dues are $120 per year, payable monthly. There is a costume rental fee of $35. per year. Basic costumes are provided (blouses, vests, accessories).
